This is a set of 3 items. A photograph of a WW2 Japanese soldier. Included are his two flags he owned personally.
The photograph is set in a brown paper frame and has been written on the back in Japanese.
The large flag is approximately 36 x 26 inches and is an original hand printed silk flag is from WW2 Imperial Japan. The second flag is a small flag appoximately 9 x 8 inches.
Note that there is a small rip in the crease/fold of the large flag about 5 inches long.
The national flag of Japan is a rectangular white banner with a red disk at the center, representing the sun.
It is most commonly known in Japan as “Hinomaru,” the Circle of the Sun. Also referred to by Americans as a “Meatball” flag due to the large, red circle in the center of the flag.
The Good Luck Flag, known as Hinomaru Yosegaki in the Japanese language, was a traditional gift for Japanese servicemen deployed during the military campaigns of the Empire of Japan and was used by a soldier for prayers and good luck.
