Württemberg, Kingdom. A Wilhelm Cross For Merit In War
Instituted 13 September 1915 by King Wilhelm II. (1915-1918 issue). Constructed of bronze, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, consisting of a Cross Pattée, the obverse with a central wreathed monogram of King Wilhelm II, the six o’clock arm with a date of “1915”, the twelve o’clock arm with a royal crown, the reverse with a central wreathed inscription of “KRIEGS VERDIENST” (“WAR MERIT”)
The Wilhelm Cross with Swords and Crown was awarded 108 times, the Wilhelm Cross with Swords 5,329 times and the Wilhelm Cross without swords 1,943 times.
It was struck at the Wurttemberg Royal Mint, Stuttgart.
