ORIGINAL THIRD REICH D.V.G. WESTMARK NSDAP MEMBERSHIP PIN
GERMAN WWII NSDAP DVG WESTMARK PIN - ORIGINAL
This is an original German WW2 DVG Westmark pin with maker marked. With working pin back.
The D.V.G. or Deutscher Volks Genossen Bund (German Fellow-Countrymen League). This was an organization of ethnic Germans from the Alsace-Lorraine region of France who sought unification with Germany. They took the name Westmark (Western March) for Lorraine (Lothringen), and although not formally associated with the NSDAP, they duplicated the design of their membership badge but reversed the colors. It is a 24mm diameter, die struck alloy and enameled badge featuring a black outer border, edged in silver, with the silver script, D.V.G. / WESTMARK (LOTHR.) encompassing a white field with a red mobile swastika, also edged in silver.
The reverse of the badge is marked by maker W. REDO / SAARLAUTERN, for Werner Redo, a known maker from the fortress city in the Saarland, almost on the border with France. They were uniquely located to supply badges to the D.V.G., and after the area was reunited with Germany in 1936, they supplied badges to the rest of Germany as well.
