M31 WEHRMACHT STYLE EAST GERMAN BREAD BAG

This is an original DDR (Deutsche Demokratische Republik) or East Germany, 1962 bread bag, similiar to the German M31 Brotbeutel bag.  This bag is made fro heavy cotton duck material.  It has 2 belt loops, 1 belt hook and 1 inner compartment.  There are 2 rings and leather straps for a canteen and mess tin.  Has 2 rings for the shoulder strap.  Size:  Approx. 24 cm x 24 cm x 8 cm.

Marked inside:  MDI 13/6813IV62.   The MDI stands for the Ministerium des InnernImperial Office of the Interior, or Ministry of the Interior.   The MDI controlled the Volkspolizei and the Kampfgruppen der Arbeiterklasse.  

Also hand written is the soldiers name on inside:  Hinz.
