GERMAN WW11 SA STORMTROOPER KEPI TAN WITH BLUE

(Sturmabteilung) were started at the beginning of the formation of the Nazi Party in 1920. It was then disbanded after the failed Munich Beer Hall Putsch. Though the group continued unground for the next two years it wasn’t until the release of Hitler from prison that the SA was official re-established. At this time it received its first formal uniform and ranking insignia.
The” brown shirts” ironically became the uniform of the SA in 1924 due to a large surplus of brown denim shirts in a warehouse in Austria meant for use in uniforms used in the tropics. The ranking and titles used by the SA became the basis for military titles for other groups in the Nazi Party such as the SS. In the 1930’s the German SA Stormstrooper (Sturmabteilung) started to use different colours to indicate which SA group or division (gruppen) the soldier belong to. This unit colour was worn on the front of the kepi along with rank and unit patches.
