SS SCHARFUHRER NCO INFANTRY SHOULDER BOARDS WITH ORANGE PIPING  - REPRODUCTION

Waffen-SS Scharfuhrer NCO shoulder boards made from black wool with subdued silver tresse and orange piping for Military Field Police.

SS-Scharführer was the equivalent rank to the Heer's rank of Unterfeldwebel - the intermediate rank between Unteroffizier and Feldwebel.

Has button hole for uniform attachment and black wool strap

The rank tresse is the subdued version and not the early shiny silver ones.

The SS used black wool shoulder boards throughout the war changing only the rank tresse.  Rank tresse was sewn onto the edges of the shoulder boards.  The early war tresse was originally shiny silver aluminum but during the war (sometime in 1940) the tresse was changed to a grey or tan colour with a slight green shade. Probably due to the ease of seeing this bright silver tresse the Germans quickly introduced the subdued tresse instead.

After 1940 both silver and the subdued tresse was worn on the shoulder boards.

In 1933 when Hitler came into power he reintroduced into the Wehrmacht the Feldgendarmerie or Military Field Police.  A military police school was setup to train and give these new police units full infantry training.  This included learning criminal code, self0defence, criminal methodology, identification laws, weapons drills, etc.

This course lasted a year and had a very high failure rate.  Once graduated the Feldgendarmerie worked within the army division in a self-contained unit of their own.  They worked closely with the Geheime Feldpolizei (or Secret Field Police) commanders and SS Police Leaders.
