Waffen SS Officers Schirmmutzen (Visor Cap) comes with silver piping, black velvet band and field grey gabardine peak complete with silver bullion cap cord and silver metal SS eagle and Totenkopf skull.
Worn by higher-ranking officers in the Waffen SS, the silver piping and cord marked the wearer as an officer below the rank of General.
Inside cap has the RZM tag and states the following: Reichsfuhrer SS, Befohlene, Ausfuhrungand. (Reichs Führer SS Ordered Execution).
Also, the rim of the cap is stamped with the following number: S311713II.
This Waffen SS Visor cap would have been worn by Obergruppenfuhrer Josef "Sepp" Dietrich.
Josef "Sepp" Dietrich, born May 28, 1892, started his career as Adolf Hitler’s chauffeur and bodyguard. A politician and later a SS General he joined the Nazi party in 1928. He was elect to the Reichstag of the Weimar Republic in 1930.
Dietrich reached the highest SS Officers rank of Oberst-Gruppenfuhrer, even though he had no formal training. He was commanding officer of the 6th Panzer Army during the Battle of the Bulge. Dietrich bore the responsibility for the Malmedy massacre, the murder of U.S. prisoners of war in December 1944.
Convicted after the war of war crimes he went to Landsberg Prison until 1955 at which time he was released. Dietrich became active in HIAG, a lobby group established by former high-ranking Waffen-SS personnel. He died April 21, 1966.
