The Radio Operator & Air Gunner's Badge (Fliegerschützenabzeichen für Bordfunker) also known as the combined Air Gunner, Radio Operator and Flight Engineer Badge was originally released in 1935, with two later versions introduced in WW2.
This was awarded to Luftwaffe members after completing two months of training or if they had taken part in at least 5 operation flights. Exceptions were also made for those who were wounded during in battle as they could be awarded earlier.
The badge was silver-plated, earlier versions made in aluminum and later versions made in simple metal alloy. It had an oval shape with a wreath around the outside. The middle of the medal had the German national eagle, flying downwards, clutching lighting bolts in its claws.
Laurel leaves were on the right side of the wreath and oak leaves on the left.
