SET OF GERMAN INK PERMENANT PENCILS USED FOR DOCUMENTS ORIGINAL

These are original WW2 era pencils that are used on formal documents.  This is a set of 12 unused pencils in their original paper binding. Marked “Aviso” and is made in Bavaria. These are an “aniline ink” type pencil. By wetting the tip of the pencil an intense and indelible blue/purple coloured, ink type consistency,  writing shows on the paper.  There was no one specific shade of blue or purple as depending on makers and stock it could be a variety of blue or purple colours.  These type of pencils were used by military administration for use on documents and forms.  See an example of a "ink pencil" signature on a German document in photo's.

Prior to the widespread use of ballpoint pens, indelible pencils were commonly used for everyday writing. This type of permanent pencil, called “Kopierstift” or “Tintenstift” in German, and sometimes “copying pencil” in English, used a lead that contained not only powdered graphite and clay like regular pencils, but also a permanent dye that was activated by moisture. This dye, once exposed to the moisture in the air, bonded with paper and could not be removed. When these pencils were invented in the 19th century, they most commonly used a purple dye, and purple dye remained most common through the post-WWII era when ballpoints made them obsolete.
