GERMAN WWI 1914 IRON CROSS 2ND CLASS MAKER MARKED

This is an original WW1 German Iron Cross 2nd class.

The ring has it's maker mark:  S-W from the manufacturer Sy-Wagner, Berlin Germany.

Sy & Wagner was a prominent silverware manufacturer based in Berlin, Germany. The company was founded in 1851 by François Louis Jéremy Sy and Emil August Albrecht Wagner1. They were known for producing high-quality silver items, including pieces for the Prussian royal family.

The basic design of the WW1 IRON CROSS 2nd CLASS has the front of the cross bearing the date 1914 under a crowned 'W' monogram.The back of the cross bears an oak leaf cluster with the date of the decoration’s institution, 1813 underneath and FW the crowned initials of Frederick William are in the top arm above the oak leaf cluster.
