Location: North Africa Date: June 15-17, 1941
Commanders and Forces:
German: 13,000 troops, plus 170 tanks and 210 aircraft (Rommel)
British: 20,000 troops, plus 200 tanks and 203 aircraft (General Sir Archibald Wavell)
Casualties:
German: 700 killed and 70 tanks destroyed
British: 900 killed and 100 tanks destroyed
Key Actions:
On June 15, German guns destroyed dozens of British tanks at Halfaya Pass, effectively deciding the outcome of the British offensive
Key Effects:
The morale of the Afrika Korps soared while British spirits sank. Winston Churchill relieved Wavell of his command on June 21. Wavell was replaced by General Sir Claude Auchinleck.
