AMERICAN PURPLE HEART WW2 WITH CASE - ORGINAL
This Purple Heart is a high quality die-struck medal with gilt wash and enamel work in purple. On the front is an image of George Washington. On the back is the script "FOR MILITARY MERIT". This comes complete with it's original 35mm wide white and purple ribbon. It comes with the original navy blue case with has a gilt ornate border on the top of the lid and the script, "Purple Heart". The case is lined in gold flocking on the bottom and gold satin on the lid. The staggered bar hinge and spring are intact and fully functional.

The American Purple Heart medal was first Instituted in 1932 for any members of the U.S. Armed Forces who were wounded or killed in combat. The medal could be awarded in conjunction with a Bronze Oak Leaf, Silver Oak Leaf, Silver Star or Gold Star depending on the number of wounds received.
